Mighty 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE Smashes Nurburgring Lap Records, Pulls Gs
June 28 2017, Paillé GM
While the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE may seem like yet another ploy to market the impressive new pony car with an obscure designation, there’s quite a lot of history behind it. Originally the name of a brake-and-handling package from the late 60s, it now represents one of the most refined and quick versions of the Camaro yet.
In this instance, it’s being applied to the Camaro ZL1, which with 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque is already a quick, refined track beast. But Chevrolet went further, applying Multimatic DSSV dynamic suspension and spool valve shocks, and gripping tires. With this new equipment in hand, the Camaro ZL1 1LE corners with 1.10G. It may offer the same power output as the LT4 version, but details, and ability to defy the laws of physics will certainly entice some to its side. The recent 7:16:04 laptime at the Nurburgring (shown above) won’t hurt either—especially since this makes it the quickest Camaro yet.
