2022 Chevrolet Bolt EV and 2022 Chevrolet Bolt EUV — Our Comprehensive Guide
April 20 2022,
Named 2022 Best Electric Car[1] by The Car Guide, the 2022 Chevrolet Bolt accomplishes quite an amazing feat: offering a long all-electric range at one of the most competitive price points on the market. The latest Bolt features a redesigned look, improved ride and comfort, and a more affordable price than ever before.
2022 Chevrolet Bolt Design
The 2022 Bolt comes in two body styles. The subcompact EV is short, aerodynamic and agile, giving it great handling in tight corners. The EUV compact SUV features more rear room, easier access, excellent visibility on the road thanks to its elevated driving position and more muscular lines. Slender LED headlights and sharp angles give both vehicles a modern, futuristic look.
The redesigned interior has a more luxurious finish than before and more soft-touch surfaces. A touchscreen brings up infotainment features, while a fully digital instrument panel displays driving information. The new seats are comfortable and provide plenty of headroom, even when driving the elevated SUV trim.
Engine
The same electric motor powers both front-wheel-drive models, delivering 200 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The Bolt EV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 6.8 seconds, a performance that rivals many sports sedans. Despite its small size, this subcompact benefits from the weight of the battery under the floor to keep it firmly planted on the road when cornering. The EUV subcompact SUV is spacious and 51 lb heavier, and thus needs half a second more to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h, at 7.2 seconds.
All-Electric Range
As GM’s forerunner of electric driving, the Bolt doesn’t rely on the same Ultium platform as the company’s latest models or those yet to come. Instead, it uses its own 65 kWh battery, which offers a remarkable range for the price. The EV trim can drive up to 417 km on a single charge, while the larger EUV can reach 397 km.
The new mobile charging station can be plugged into both regular 120-volt outlets and household 240-volt outlets (e.g., a dryer plug), which are cheap and easy to install – many homeowners may not even need a dedicated home charging station. Both vehicles are also compatible with fast-charging stations, capable of recovering approximately 160 km of range every half hour.
Availability and Price
A safety recall to correct two design flaws in batteries from supplier LG Electronics has halted production at the Orion plant near Detroit since the summer of 2021. Operations resume in April 2022[2] . At the time of publication, the Chevrolet Bolt EV was available from $40,438, which is $4,650 less than the previous year’s model!
The EUV starts at $42,348 for the LT model and $46,848 for the Premier model, which includes more luxurious exterior finishes, 17″ machined-face aluminum wheels, perforated leather seat upholstery and an HD surround view system with a rear camera.
